Base64 Encoder

Encode text or files to Base64 in one click.

Base64 turns binary data and text into plain ASCII that survives email, URLs, and config files. This free Base64 encoder handles text with full UTF-8 support, or any file up to 25 MB, right in your browser. Paste text or drop a file, and copy or download the encoded output. Developers use it for embedding images in CSS, building data URIs, and passing tokens through systems that only accept text. Decoding is one click away with the matching decoder. Nothing is uploaded, so private content stays on your device.

About Base64 Encoder

Some systems only speak plain text. Email bodies, JSON payloads, URLs, and configuration files can all mangle raw binary data, so Base64 exists to translate any bytes into a safe alphabet of letters, numbers, and a few symbols. Encoding is how an image becomes a data URI in a stylesheet, or how credentials ride inside an HTTP header.

This encoder takes text, with full UTF-8 support, so emoji and accented characters round-trip correctly, or any file up to 25 MB, and produces standard Base64 you can copy or download as a .txt file.

Two things worth knowing before you encode: Base64 inflates data by about a third, so a 3 MB image becomes roughly 4 MB of text, fine for small assets, wasteful for large ones. And encoding is not encryption: anyone can decode Base64 in seconds, so never treat it as a way to hide secrets. It's a transport format, not a security measure.

How to use Base64 Encoder

  1. Paste text or choose a file to encode.
  2. Click Encode to convert it to Base64.
  3. Copy the output or download it as a file.
  4. Use the decoder tool to reverse it when needed.

Why use this tool?

  • Correct UTF-8 handling for non-English text
  • Copy or download the encoded output

Tips for best results

  • Expect ~33% size growth: Base64 turns every 3 bytes into 4 characters, so budget accordingly.
  • Encoding is not encryption, anyone can reverse it. Never 'protect' passwords or keys this way.
  • For small images in CSS/HTML, data URIs are fine; for large assets, link the file instead of embedding it.
  • UTF-8 text with emoji or accents encodes correctly here, no need to strip special characters first.
  • If an API accepts raw binary uploads, prefer that over Base64, it skips the size overhead entirely.
  • Downloading the output as .txt keeps very long strings manageable versus copying from the page.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Base64 encoder free?
Yes. It is free with no limits, no account, and no signup.
Is my content uploaded anywhere?
No. Encoding happens in your browser. Your content never leaves your device.
Does it handle non-English text?
Yes. Text is encoded with full UTF-8 support, including emoji and accented characters.
Can I encode a file, not just text?
Yes. Drop any file up to 25 MB and get its Base64 output.
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 is encoding, not encryption. Anyone can decode it, so never use it to hide secrets.
