About Commission Calculator
Most commission plans are explained in a sentence and paid in a spreadsheet. You hear “5% on everything you close” and assume the math is trivial, until tiered thresholds, accelerators, and split deals turn payday into a small mystery. This calculator gives you the straight version: enter the sale amount and the rate, and it returns exactly what the commission comes to, no spreadsheet formulas, no mental math, no waiting for the payroll run to find out.
Where it earns its keep is the tiered mode. Many sales roles pay a base rate up to a quota threshold and a higher rate on everything above it, which is designed to reward overperformance. Tick the tiered option, set the threshold and the accelerator rate, and you get a clear breakdown of what each portion of the sale earned. That split matters: it shows you at a glance how much the over-quota dollars are really worth to you.
One honest note: this is an estimating tool, not a payroll system. Real commission plans include fine print: clawbacks on canceled deals, caps, draws against future commissions, and whether the rate applies to gross or net revenue. Use this to sanity-check a payout or compare plan structures before you sign, and treat your actual comp plan as the binding word. Results are estimates for illustration only and are not financial advice.

Tips for best results
- Model the tiered structure before accepting an offer: a plan with a 3% base and 8% above quota can beat a flat 5% once you clear the threshold.
- Check whether your rate applies to gross sale price or net revenue after discounts, on a heavily discounted deal the two can differ a lot.
- If you split a deal with another rep, run the calculator once per person's share rather than on the total and dividing.
- Ask about clawbacks: many plans deduct commission if a client cancels within a set window, which this estimate cannot capture.
- Keep a copy of your actual commission plan handy and treat it, not this tool, as the final word on any dispute.
