About Days Between Dates Calculator
Counting days between two dates sounds trivial until you try it across months, leap years, and weekends. How many business days until the deadline? How long was that contract in effect? How many days until the trip? This calculator answers in one step: pick the two dates and get the total days, the equivalent in weeks, and an approximate month count, with an option to count weekdays only, which is the version project plans and payroll usually need.
The weekdays-only mode deserves a look at its method. It counts each full week as five weekdays, then walks through the leftover days one by one, skipping Saturdays and Sundays. That handles the general case correctly, but remember what it doesn't know: public holidays. A “business days” count spanning Thanksgiving week or a national holiday will overcount, because holidays vary by country, state, and even company. If holidays matter, subtract them yourself, or better, mark them on the calendar you're planning against.
One convention worth knowing: the count excludes the end date, which is the standard way date differences are measured. Monday to Friday is four days by this reckoning, not five. Most people trip on this once and then remember it forever. The tool also works in either order, so you don't have to think about which date comes first, useful when you're measuring backward from a deadline.

Tips for best results
- Remember the end date is excluded: Monday to Friday counts as 4 days, not 5.
- For payroll proration, use weekdays-only, then manually subtract any public holidays in the range.
- The tool works in either date order. Enter the deadline first and the start second if that's how you're thinking.
- For “days until” countdowns, the start date is today; the result is how many full days remain.
- Cross-check long ranges against a calendar once; time zones and daylight-saving shifts can surprise date math near midnight.
